The Paris Tourism Office on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées is a good place to
find out about all that's happening in the City of Light.
Paris is the world's favourite tourism destination and home to several of
the most visited monuments - and your Romantic Paris Rental is
ideally situated to take advantage of it all!
The city has something for everyone, whether you're looking for
stunning architecture, museums and art galleries or you'd rather check
out the fashion stores and hip nightclubs. Or maybe you're just hoping
to soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful city while sipping a glass of
wine on a sunny café terrasse.
Getting around
The best way to visit Paris is on foot and it's a very manageable city.
Of course, that won't get you everywhere, unless you have lots of time,
so the next best option is public transport.
The metro is world-renowned for being efficient, fast, frequent and
safe. However, don't neglect the buses! You can see more of Paris
from a bus and get where you want to go too!
From the apartment: Romantic Montmartre is wonderfully
located for public transport. The local electric bus, the Montmartrobus,
stops almost outside the door and will take you around the
neighbourhood and on to the Mairie (town hall) for the 18th
arrondissement (that's a district; there are 20 in Paris). The nearest
metro station is Abbesses, on the versatile line 12 - which will take you
to Concorde, the Left Bank and Montparnasse, and allow you to link
easily to anywhere else in Paris. The no. 80 bus from down the road
on rue Caulaincourt will take you directly to the Eiffel Tower
Pack an extra passport photo so you can buy a Carte Orange for
which offers a week of unlimited travel on buses and metros. Or invest
in a “Paris Visite” pass, which allows you to travel freely on Paris public
transport. You can also buy a combined transport and museum pass -
ask at the metro station.
One of the great pleasures in Paris is
the variety of wonderful cuisines.
You'll find a selection of excellent
restaurants and cafés within a few
minutes' walk of the apartment.
Check out the Restaurant Guide in the
apartment for suggestions and add
your own!

The Eiffel Tower - viewed from Montmartre

If you feel a need to get out of the city, Paris has several very large parks along the edges of the city where you can enjoy long walks, cycling, boating and horse-riding. The most famous is the Bois de Boulogne but try also the Bois de Vincennes in the east. Farther afield, explore the Palais de Versailles built by Louis XIV, the Sun King, and its wonderful gardens, the Chateau de Fontainebleau and its forests or the Chateau de Chantilly (where the cream comes from), complete with the original moat. Or visit the famous flea market at St Ouen: Les Puces
|
For the best ice cream in Paris, try Berthillon. Join the queues at the original Berthillon stands on the Ile de la Cité, esp in front of the restaurant Le Flore en l'ile. Also available around the city. Delicious!

It may sound like a cliché but you really can't leave Paris without visiting the
Eiffel Tower. Or take the metro to Trocadero for the best view of the tower,
from the Palais de Chaillot directly across the river. At some point, you also
must be within sight of the tower at night when, for 10 minutes every hour,
starting at the top of the hour, some 30,000 bulbs sparkle and dance in a
spectacular light display.
